This week is the start of research and analysis presentation. I've chosen advertising to research because I like how some adverts in charities or genres that help in raising awareness have the capability to tell the story and persuade the audiences, which I think that it can hopefully link with my progression, animation, as it also required skills in telling stories.
This is some of my short notes after I've studied from the given materials.
From my own perspective, I think the most effective way to advertise a product or a brand is definitely through television and internet, as they can reach mass of audiences, however, the cost of banners and adverts on those medias are really expensive. Thus, in the other hand, the print adverts also take an important role in reaching specific audiences too.
In case of only print advert, I think the most effective print is the print that can organise the element really well that it doesn't require text to describe what happened in there. Texts in adverts are really important to tell the will of the adverts, but most of effective adverts include only some slogans or really short phrase and the images in adverts already do their works, because in general, audiences won't take much time to read a text, so I think the text should be as minimal as it can be
Examples of adverts in different genres
Movie advert
Reach For The Stars

This is a print advert for Netflix movie, Mercury 13, which the story is about 13 women astronauts who should be allowed to go to space. The advert is really simple and meaningful. It contains only few colours and few texts, yet it can communicate the story to the audience. The shape of women faces on the fume of the spaceship can easily tell that it's about women lives linking with space.
I choose this to be an example of movie genre because it composed of well-organised elements and it has a distinctive style from other movie adverts as there's not much hand drawn print in this genre. It's also in minimal style, unlike other movie prints that contains lots of details. The colour pair is also a complementary pair that make the shape of women faces looks more outstanding too.
Thus, as a distinctive poster in movie genre, I think this is an interesting one to select out of other movie adverts.

Food advert
A classic. With bacon.
These are an interesting McDonald's advert that also quite differ from other food adverts. Instead of promoting the food itself, the company play the word 'classic' with other famous classical painting. Because of its distinctive visual design, it can capture the audiences' eyes easier. We can see that there is bacon hiding on somewhere of the painting, which is also adapted to the style of each painting. The use of famous painting can also be interpret as their already well made original food, and adding the bacon into it makes the original even better.
The reason I've selected this one to be an example of food advert is the same reason as the previous one. The advert is distinctive from other food adverts with the use of unexpected element. It also has deep meaning unlike other adverts. Even it might take some time to understand, it catches audiences' attentions easier.
